RentThread Copyright and DMCA Policy

DRAFT — DO NOT PUBLISH OR ENABLE USER UPLOADS UNTIL THE DESIGNATED AGENT IS REGISTERED AND COUNSEL APPROVES THE WORKFLOW

Effective: {{EFFECTIVE_DATE}}
Last updated: {{LAST_UPDATED_DATE}}

RentThread respects copyright and expects users to submit only material they created, are authorized to use, or otherwise may lawfully use.

This Policy describes the process for notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”). It is not the process for defamation, privacy, trademark, property-fact, or general content-policy complaints.

1. Designated copyright agent

Send copyright notices to:

Agent: {{DMCA_AGENT_NAME_OR_TITLE}}
Organization: {{DMCA_AGENT_ORGANIZATION}}
Service provider: {{LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME}}, doing business as RentThread and RentThread.com
Mail: {{DMCA_AGENT_MAILING_ADDRESS}}
Telephone: {{DMCA_AGENT_PHONE}}
Email: {{DMCA_AGENT_EMAIL}}

Do not publish this Policy until the same current information, legal entity name, RentThread alternate name, and RentThread.com domain have been registered in the U.S. Copyright Office’s electronic DMCA Designated Agent Directory.

2. Copyright notice requirements

A written notice of claimed infringement should include all of the following:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for the owner.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or a representative list if one notice covers multiple works at one site.
  3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient for RentThread to locate it, preferably the exact RentThread URL and a description of where it appears.
  4. Contact information reasonably sufficient for RentThread to contact the complaining party, including name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A statement that the complaining party has a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or law.
  6. A statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act for the owner of the exclusive right allegedly infringed.

Send the notice to the designated agent above. General support reports, social-media messages, and notices sent only to a user may not reach the designated agent.

3. What happens after a notice

RentThread may:

  • Confirm receipt and request missing information.
  • Remove or disable access to identified material expeditiously when appropriate.
  • Notify the affected user and provide a copy or substance of the notice.
  • Record a copyright strike or repeat-infringer event.
  • Forward the notice, counter-notice, or related information as permitted by law.
  • Restore material following a valid counter-notice unless the claimant timely notifies us of a filed court action seeking to restrain the disputed activity.

Removal under this process does not mean RentThread decided ownership, infringement, fair use, or another legal defense. RentThread is not a court and cannot provide legal advice.

4. Counter-notice requirements

If your material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification, you may send a written counter-notice containing:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the removed or disabled material and the location where it appeared before removal.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address, and telephone number.
  5. A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district where your address is located—or, if your address is outside the United States, a federal district where RentThread may be found—and accepting service of process from the person who submitted the original notice or that person’s agent.

Send the counter-notice to the designated agent. If it is complete, RentThread may send it to the original complainant and inform that party that the material may be restored in not fewer than 10 and not more than 14 business days. We may restore it in that period unless the designated agent receives notice that the complainant filed an action seeking a court order concerning the material.

A counter-notice shares the submitter’s name and contact information with the claimant. Consider obtaining legal advice before submitting one.

5. Repeat infringers

RentThread maintains and reasonably implements a policy to terminate, in appropriate circumstances, users who repeatedly infringe copyright. We consider the reliability and disposition of notices, counter-notices, court outcomes, retractions, whether multiple notices concern the same event, and other relevant context.

We do not treat every allegation as a final finding, but users may not repeatedly upload the same removed work or use new accounts to evade a restriction.

6. Misrepresentations and abuse

Federal law may impose liability for knowingly and materially misrepresenting that material is infringing or that removal resulted from mistake or misidentification. Do not use the DMCA process to suppress criticism, pursue a non-copyright dispute, identify an anonymous speaker, or claim ownership of facts, ideas, short titles, or material you do not own.

RentThread may restrict accounts or notices that abuse the process and may refer a matter to counsel.

7. Other complaints

  • Trademark or false affiliation: legal@rentthread.com
  • Privacy or personal information: use the content-report tool and privacy@rentthread.com
  • Defamation or other legal demand: legal@rentthread.com
  • Incorrect property fact: use the Property Correction form
  • Community-policy issue: use the report control on the content

Sending a complaint does not guarantee removal. Provide the exact URL, the specific material, a clear explanation, your relationship to the issue, and supporting information.

8. Agent maintenance

RentThread must keep its designated-agent information current on this page and with the Copyright Office, update changes promptly, and renew the federal designation before its three-year expiration. This operational requirement is included in the recurring legal checklist.
